Oil Portrait Workshop
July 15-20, 2007

This class is open to students who have taken Neal's workshop before, or
other advanced students may apply by sending 3 slides or digital images of
their work and past educational experience. Similar to other Michael Shane
Neal workshops, but limited to 15 students (5 around each model) to allow more
on-on-one instruction. There will be more in-depth lectures, demonstrations,
and discussions, including individual critique sessions for each participant.
Students will also enjoy an evening visit to Neal's studio. A continental breakfast
will be provided each morning. Most lunches will be "working lunches" with
powerpoint presentations. Students will receive a nearly 200 page workbook
compiled by Neal to compliment the week's studies. Sketches and studies from
Neal's demonstrations will be available for purchase. $1200

Plein Air Workshop - Urban and Rual Subjects

This is a very intensive workshop designed
for the beginning/moderate artist to the professional, with
instructional work designed for each experience level. There
will be indoor class instruction and exercises, individual teaching,
and lots of paint time indoors and out. Class exercises will
cover seeing color, value, shape, form and composition. You
will learn valuable tools on how to gather information to produce
a large studio painting. This will include painting on location,
using photos as reference, and drawing. You will hone your memory
skills and learn how to make creative decisions and use opportunities
in plein-air. There will also be individual and group critiques.

Plein Air Painting Workshop
October 1 - 5, 2007
This class will be taught on ADVANCED PLEIN AIR PAINTING.
Prior experience in outdoor painting is required. It is also
a good idea to have a moderate amount of experience in oil painting
and color mixing. Specialized equipment is required. Class will
be held on private properties in the Historic District of Leiper’s
Fork, Tennessee.
Jason’s style of hands on teaching will help you understand
how to make good, sound painting decisions. There will be an
intense five days of hands on painting and multiple instructor
demonstrations.
This class in designed for the dedicated
and devoted painter. Jason will help you progress your work
to a new level and develop a better understanding of plein air
challenges. Registration is limited to 15 students.

Principles of painting portraits, still lifes, and landscapes will be covered.
There will be in-depth lectures, demonstrations, and discussions, including

students will view powerpoint presentation highlighting important historical
artists as well as discussions of techniques, studios, materials and equipment.

This class will be taught on fundamentals of plein air painting. Prior experience
in outdoor painting is suggested. It is also a good idea to have a reasonable
amount of experience in oil painting and color mixing. Specialized equipment
is required (i.e. French easel or pochade box). Class will be held on private
properties in the Historic District of Leiper’s Fork, Tennessee.
Jason’s style of hands on teaching will help you understand how to
make good, sound painting decisions. No matter if you are an amateur painter
searching for sound fundamentals or a professional stuck in a rut, Jason
will help you progress your work to a new level. Registration is limited
to 15 students. Scholarship tuition is available for one University enrolled
